Flying into Malta Most guests traveling to the wedding will arrive through Malta International Airport (MLA), the island’s main airport. Malta is well connected to major European cities, and you can often find convenient flights via hubs such as London, Rome, Paris, Frankfurt, or Amsterdam. The airport is small and efficient, and anywhere in Malta is at most a 30-minute drive away. Once you land, getting around Malta is easy and affordable by taxi, ride share, or private transfer. If you’re traveling onward to Gozo, this can be done the same day via ferry (details listed below). Travel Tips: Passport control &amp; customs: Generally quick and efficient, though lines may form during peak travel times.Currency: Euros (€) are used in Malta. ATMs are available at the airport, but notifying your bank before traveling is always a good idea.Taxis &amp; Ubers: Easily available just outside the arrivals terminal. Taxis are reasonably priced — we’ve never paid more than €30 for a ride within Malta.SIM cards &amp; Wi-Fi: Local SIM cards are available at the airport, or check if your mobile plan includes EU roaming.

Malta International Airport

One of the easiest and most convenient ways to reach Gozo is by taking the Gozo Highspeed Ferry from Valletta. The modern catamaran departs from Valletta’s Grand Harbour and arrives at Mgarr Harbour, Gozo in about 45 minutes, offering a comfortable ride with beautiful sea views. In May, ferries run frequently throughout the day, usually every 45–60 minutes, from early morning until late evening. Ticket prices typically range from €7–€15 per person (one way), depending on time and season. We recommend booking in advance during busy travel periods, though same-day tickets are often available.Once you arrive in Gozo, taxis and ride-share services (including Uber) are readily available right at the ferry terminal. Taxi rides anywhere on the island generally cost €10–€25, and we’ve never paid more than €30 for a ride in Malta or Gozo. Allow at least 3 hours total travel time if you are traveling from Malta to Gozo on the same day to ensure a relaxed and stress-free arrival.

Gozo Fast Ferry

Another popular and reliable option is the Gozo Channel Ferry, which operates between Ċirkewwa (Malta) and Mgarr Harbour (Gozo). The crossing takes approximately 25 minutes and runs 24/7, only suspending service in cases of extreme weather. In May, ferries typically depart every 30–45 minutes. During busy periods, you may need to wait for one or two ferries — especially if traveling with a vehicle. Foot passengers can simply walk on, while cars are also welcome on board. Tickets are paid on the return journey from Gozo, not when departing Malta. One-way fares generally range from €5–€15 per person, with additional costs if you are bringing a car. We recommend checking the latest schedules on the Gozo Channel’s official website before traveling.

Cirkewwa Passenger Terminal

Renting a car is a flexible and convenient way to get around Malta, especially if you plan to explore different parts of the island before or after the wedding. Malta is quite small, and most drives take no more than 30 minutes. Keep in mind that driving is on the left-hand side of the road, similar to the UK. Roads can be narrow in some areas, and parking in town centers may be limited, so smaller cars are recommended. Most rental cars in Malta are manual, though automatics are available at a higher cost and should be booked in advance. If you’re coming from the U.S. or Canada, you can legally drive in Malta using your valid home driver’s license. An International Driving Permit (IDP) is not required but can be helpful as an extra form of identification. Taxis and ride-share services are also very affordable in Malta, so renting a car is entirely optional. Please note that the wedding venue does have an on-site parking lot available for guests who choose to drive.

Rental Cars 

If you’re looking for a convenient and stress-free way to get around Malta—especially after a long flight—taxis and ride-share services are a great option. The drive from Malta International Airport to anywhere on the island is typically no more than 30 minutes, depending on traffic.We highly recommend using Bolt or Uber, as they are generally more affordable and transparent with pricing. While traditional white taxis are available at the airport, they tend to be more expensive, so we suggest avoiding them when possible. Fares with Bolt or Uber usually range from €10–€30 for most trips around Malta. These services offer upfront pricing, cashless payment, and easy pickup directly from the airport. Private transfers can also be arranged in advance if you prefer a pre-booked option, but for most guests, ride-share services are the easiest and most cost-effective choice.

Gozo Hotels

We recommend staying on Gozo on both Friday and Saturday nights to make travel much easier for the wedding weekend. If you are not staying on Gozo, please allow at least 3 hours of travel time when coming over to ensure a smooth arrival.

Hotel Ta’ Cenc &amp; Spa (Wedding Venue) The first hotel option is Hotel Ta’ Cenc &amp; Spa, where the wedding will be held. Rooms are approximately €160 per night. Kempinski Hotel San Lawrenz Malta For guests seeking a more luxurious stay on Gozo, the Kempinski Hotel San Lawrenz Malta is a beautiful five-star option set in tranquil gardens with excellent spa and dining facilities. Room rates are typically higher than Ta’ Cenc and vary by season. Guests interested in staying at the Kempinski may book directly with the hotel.

Hotel Calypso If you’re looking for a comfortable and budget-friendly place to stay on Gozo, the Calypso Hotel in Marsalforn Bay is a great choice. Located right by the water with beautiful views of the Mediterranean, this hotel offers simple, air-conditioned rooms with private balconies and free Wi-Fi, a rooftop pool with sun deck and cocktail bar, and easy walking access to the beach, restaurants, and bars. Guests say the location and service are excellent value for money, making it a lovely base for exploring Gozo while keeping costs lower.

We recommend staying in Malta on the non-wedding nights so you can easily explore the island and enjoy everything it has to offer.

Hilton Malta For guests planning to stay in Malta before or after the wedding weekend, the Hilton Malta in St. Julian’s is a wonderful choice. This luxury five-star hotel sits right on the Portomaso waterfront with stunning views of the Mediterranean and marina, spacious rooms and suites, multiple restaurants (including Mediterranean and Thai cuisine), and excellent leisure facilities such as a spa, indoor and outdoor pools, fitness center, and more. Its central location makes it easy to explore Malta’s vibrant dining, nightlife, and seaside promenades, and it’s just a short drive from the airport and historic sites.

Malta Marriott Resort &amp; Spa For guests planning to stay in Malta before or after the wedding weekend, the Malta Marriott Resort &amp; Spa in St. Julian’s is a lovely upscale choice. This five-star waterfront resort sits just steps from Balluta Bay and offers beautifully appointed rooms and suites, multiple restaurants and bars, a full-service spa, indoor and outdoor pools, fitness facilities, and easy access to the promenade and local attractions. It’s a great base for exploring Malta’s vibrant dining, seaside views, and nightlife while enjoying a comfortable and luxurious stay.

Hotel Valentina If you're looking for a stylish yet budget-friendly stay in the heart of St. Julian’s, Hotel Valentina is a great choice. This well-rated hotel offers contemporary, comfortable rooms with free Wi-Fi and a seasonal outdoor pool, all within walking distance of restaurants, bars, beaches, and public transport, making it easy to explore Malta. It’s centrally located in lively Paceville, close to the waterfront and just a short journey from Sliema and Valletta

Palazzo Sant Ursula A charming and affordable option in the heart of Valletta, Palazzo Sant Ursula is a converted historic palace just steps from the city’s main attractions, restaurants, and bus connections.
